Within the San Diego Christian community, with a heavy heart, we at Our Savior Watches are saddened to hear about a dear friend of ours and a dear friend of many, Christopher Joseph Naffziger has passed away yesterday. I had the pleasure of calling this man a true friend but best of all, a true soldier of Jesus Christ. Chris’ story is beyond amazing and hearing it, witnessing it and relating to my own personal experiences, makes me that much more of a believer and makes my own faith that much stronger. Chris prayed for this site, our social ministry and the watch brand we are creating on several occasions and that is something I will never forget.
I grew up in a part of San Diego that was not the most pleasant place to grow up. Alcohol, drugs, violence were around me day to day and I will be the first to admit that I fell into the devil’s trap on several occasions. And for years I struggled with addiction, addiction to alcohol, addiction to drugs, addiction to lust, addiction to everything that is without substance. But when I found the true substance I need, and that is Him that I speak of, I found myself addicted to something else… My faith in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. But the Lord was not letting me go without a fight. The devil threw everything at me trying to lure me back into his lies, but I resisted. Im not going to say I resisted all but what I didn’t resist, the Lord has been helping me block that out of my life and follow the path He led me to.
For Chris, my story does not compare to his whatsoever and I’ve never in my life heard of a story like his. I’ve known Chris for years and every time we spoke he told me about the things he struggled with and how just like that, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and his heart changed for good. When I say for good, Chris’ heart literally changed for good. His story reminds me a lot like the Book of Job. God allowed the devil to attack but not harm Job which would lead him to death. The devil took everything away from Job, his family, crops, his health dwindled… Everything that could possibly go wrong, went wrong, yet Job’s faith with God was still strong and that made the devil angry. He wanted Job to curse God and commit suicide, but he remained strong and faithful. Job received infected advice from “his friends” and those around him, yet Job ignored their guidance and stayed on the path of God.
Job 1:22 says, “In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.”
Chris’ visit to doctors, nurses and dialysis treatment was frequent. The devil literally threw everything at Chris but Chris’ hands were pressed against his ears ignoring the devil and he said out loud “Devil, you are a liar and you have no authority!” Chris knew the truth, and the truth is Jesus. With everything going on with Chris’ health, he had strength enough to pray to God and thank him, to pray for others, to pray for me, then pray for himself… and he did it with a loving smile. A smile that solidified his stance on what the devil was trying to throw at him and others around him. And through Jesus Christ, Chris turned into an elite soldier of God armed with his faith, smile and his heart. All the things that he suffered from, Chris not once cursed God, not once did he blame him for anything that was going on within him, instead he thanked him because it is all His will and Chris knew that whatever it was he faced, his faith would grow that much more stronger.
I’ve seen pictures of Chris with others around him, putting their hands on his shoulders, on his head, praying to heal him… I think that Chris knew where he was going and what would happen to him, so when he did his prayer request, I personally think that he wasn’t praying to heal his body but to heal his heart fully so his faith in Christ is the highest it could possibly be when it was his time.
Chris, you are a true inspiration to us at Savior, we love you brother and I know you’re looking down on us right now at Jesus’ side continuing your prayers for us. God bless you my friend and thank you for being a strong part of our lives.
